As part of the Wind Festival program, the Cycling Association of Montenegro, Cycling Club Durmitor, Triathlon Club Herceg Novi and JK Delfin are organizing a MTB weekend in Herceg Novi for the first time this year, with the aim of developing the urban and outdoor cycling scene, promoting active tourism and affirming Herceg Novi as a regional destination for contemporary sports events.

The originally planned three-day program was supposed to culminate in the Urban Downhill Herceg Novi race, a spectacular descent of the Herceg Novi stairs through the city center, which would represent the first event of this format in this part of Europe.

However, after the procedure was carried out and the negative opinion of the Administration for the Protection of Cultural Property was received, the organizers decided that this year’s edition of the urban race would not take place.

Although the city route will not be held, the organizers point out that Urban Downhill as an idea is not giving up, but that space is being opened for more serious institutional dialogue and better preparation of the next edition.

“This event deserves to become a manifestation of the whole city. In the coming period, we want to open a constructive dialogue about the rules, possibilities and implementation models so that the Wind Fest Urban Downhill Herceg Novi can be organized on a more serious level in the future and with the support of all relevant institutions,” say the organizers.

The Wind Fest MTB weekend program has therefore been reorganized and continues at off-road locations in the hinterland of Herceg Novi:

On Friday, May 22, Newcomers and guests are waiting for the Pump Track Session in Igalo, Saturday, May 23, is reserved for the training ride Borići – Dizdarica, while the main event – the Wind Fest Downhill race with timing in Borići – will be held on Sunday, May 24, as the last event of the Wind Festival 2026.

The new location brings a completely different, forest and technically demanding environment on the slopes of Orjen, while maintaining the competitive and festival spirit of the event.

The organizers invite all riders, cycling enthusiasts and the public to support the first edition of the Wind Fest MTB weekend in Herceg Novi and be part of the development of the event, which has the potential to grow into one of the most attractive regional cycling events.

Competitors who have already paid the entry fee for the Wind Fest Urban Downhill Herceg Novi can choose to switch their registration to the race in Borići or refund their funds, the organizers say.
