In honor of the 20th anniversary of Montenegro’s independence, XIII Operosa Montenegro Opera Festival presents a chamber version of the famous Montenegrin opera “Balkan Empress” – in the original orchestration for strings.
Based on the historical tragedy of King Nikola I Petrović-Njegoš, with music by Dionisio De Sarno San Đorđe, “The Balkan Empress” is a romantic-patriotic drama dedicated to the women of Montenegro, their strength, virtues and uniqueness.
One of the leading sopranos of today’s Montenegro, Milica Lalošević, will perform the role of Danica. Born in Kotor, she studied solo singing in Belgrade, and trained at the “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory in Rome. She is the winner of numerous awards at international competitions in Italy, Slovenia, Germany, Serbia and Montenegro. Among her notable artistic achievements are the performance of the oratorio A Child of Our Time at the Berlin Koncerthaus, as well as winning the Grand Prix at the Oper Oder Spree festival in Germany.
In 2025, she made two significant operatic debuts: the role of Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, produced by the Music Center of Montenegro, and the role of Pamina in Mozart’s Magic Flute at the Operosa Festival.
