Two-time Oscar winner, Iranian director and screenwriter Asgar Farhadi will be a guest of the 39th Film Festival Herceg Novi – Montenegro Film Festival. Farhadi will attend the screening of his latest film “Parallel Tales”, which will be held on Sunday, August 23, at 8.30 p.m. at Forte Mare.
On Tuesday, August 25, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Farhadi will also hold a special masterclass within the industry program Montenegro Film Rendezvous, organized by the Film Center of Montenegro. The lecture will be held in the Park hall, and the moderator will be Vuk Perović.
The film “Parallel Tales” was produced by the French production company Memento Production in 2026, with a duration of 139 minutes. The film was screened at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Farhadi is also this year’s laureate of the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo at the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival.
Asghar Farhadi was born in 1972 in Iran. He started making films as a teenager, when in 1986 he joined the Youth Film Society in Isfahan and shot short films on 8 and 16 millimeters. He graduated in dramatic arts at the University of Tehran in 1998, and a few years later he earned a master’s degree in theater directing, with a thesis dedicated to Harold Pinter and the importance of silence and pauses in his dramatic writing.
He made his debut with the film “Dancing in the Dust” (2002), and gained international attention with the film “About Elly” (2009), for which he won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlinale. It was followed by “A Separation” (2011), awarded with over seventy awards, including the Oscar and César for the best foreign film. He shot the movie “The Past” (2013) in France, and Bérénise Bejo received the best actress award in Cannes for her role in it. With the film “The Salesman” (2016) he won the awards for best screenplay and best actor at Cannes, as well as his second Oscar, while “A Hero” (2021) was awarded the Grand Jury Prize of the Cannes Festival.
