The biographical film, “Tove” delivers a powerful and intimate portrait of Finnish author and visual artist Tove Jansson, the most translated and widely read Finnish artist internationally. Through a biographical narrative, the film tells the story of the search for identity, love and the conquest of personal and artistic freedom.
The film follows Tove Jansson’s life from the end of World War II to the mid-1950s. The focus is on her artistic and personal struggles, including romantic relationships, as well as the creation and rise of the Moomins, which brought her international fame. The film shows how Tove balanced the expectations of her family, artistic ambitions and personal freedom, while at the same time creating a world that would become one of the most beloved in children’s literature.
