In Herceg Novi, from August 15 to 28, 2025, the 12th Cyrillic Square will be held, an event dedicated to the preservation of the Cyrillic script and the spiritual and cultural identity of the Serbian people, which gathers distinguished clergymen, academics, doctors, professors, writers, drama artists and other workers in the field of spirituality, culture and art. At this year’s Square, according to established practice, significant anniversaries will be marked with a rich program, and awards will be given for contribution to Serbian culture and Orthodoxy.
Among the anniversaries that the Cyrillic Square will mark this year are: 1700 years since the First Ecumenical Council, 850 years since the birth of Saint Sava, the first Serbian Archbishop; jubilee of Saint Peter II Petrović Njegoš – Lovćen Secret Seer (200 years since the arrival of Archimandrite Josif Tropović at the school at Topla in Herceg Novi, 180 years since the Light of the Microcosm, 180 years since the construction and 100 years since the restoration of the Lovcen Chapel), 80 years since the suffering of the Martyr Metropolitan Joaniki of Montenegro and the Littoral, the clergy and the faithful, 80 years since the birth of the poet Rajko Petrova Noga and 50 years since the death of Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić.
In addition to the rich programs, the 12th Cyrillic Square will traditionally host the award ceremony. The Seal of Herceg Šćepan award, which is awarded to individuals for their exceptional contribution to the preservation of Serbian culture and heritage, goes to the poet Andrija Radulović this year; This year, the Ćirilicnik award, which is awarded to deserving institutions, will be presented to the “Radosav Ljumović” National Library from Podgorica.
The organizer of the event is the Serbian Orthodox Church Municipality of Topaljsko-Herceg Novi, and its patrons are the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Primorsky Territory and the Municipality of Herceg Novi.
