With this work, for the first time since its founding, the city receives an encyclopedic work dedicated to its phenomena, which combines the past and present of Herceg Novi, the “main hero” of each of its hundreds of stories, i.e. determinants. The publication of the encyclopedia was supported by the Municipality of Herceg Novi, through the line for co-financing projects in the field of publishing.
“Encyclopedia of Herceg Novi” is a capital publishing venture with a hundred encyclopedic stories and more than 500 artistic photographs and is the result of ten years of creation and application of an innovative form of encyclopedism.
The work sheds the strongest light on a unique segment of the World which, on a metaphorical level, is seen as the New World. Njaga would not exist if it were not for an old and good, vanished world, about which echoes, memories, legends and anecdotes remain. To him, the encyclopedia carefully preserves a deep devotion and affection.
During the full 10 years of creation, more than 60 scientists with international references from various fields (culturalists, art historians, tourismologists, ethnographers, theologians, anthropologists, historiographers, linguists, etc.) and designers, technical and typographic editors, art and amateur photographers, academic painters, icon painters, encyclopedia editors, editors and eminent reviewers participated in the project as consultants.
The publisher is the Ethnographic Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, the editors are Dr. Branko Banović and Dr. Marta Stojić Mitrović, the design is by Aleksandar Pribićević and Goran Savić Ostojić, and the authors of the photographs are Vuk Ilić, Miloš Samardžić and Jefto Bjelica.
