Author’s project Pavlica Bajsić Brazzoduro, based on the cult book “Mediterranean Breviary” by Predrag Matvejević and Tales from the Neighboring Port (Portulano) by Olje Savičević Ivančević, premiere: March 2025.
“…directed as a visualized radio show dedicated to sailors and poets, following the ideas of Tomislav Bajsić and the radio theater, it takes the audience on the waves of Radio Mediterran through Mediterranean cities, customs, languages, historical forces that, although different and specific, unite people and their destinies. The atmosphere of the Mediterranean is recreated with song, dance, pictures, colors, and the play was inspired by Matvejević’s travels in the Mediterranean, the book Mediterranean Breviary and his thought: “Europe was conceived in the Mediterranean”. As the whole of European art was created in the Mediterranean, so the play seems to visualize those beginnings from an ancient time, includes many motivational elements, and the birth of the story is metaphorized by the birth of a man, a child wittily played by Sven Medvešek – at the beginning in a crouch, but also as a young man, a grown man and an old man who was not spared by life from beginning to end and around whom both the story and the song are woven.” (portal Kazalište.hr, Vesna Muhoberac)
“Today, when Europe is stumbling in front of its own borders, unable to find answers to the waves of refugees, the war that is destroying Gaza, the suffering of the Middle East and the hunger of Africa, which for decades has colored the depths of the once blue sea with the blood of migrants, Bajsić Brazzoduro expanded Matvejević’s story about the Mediterranean in her author’s project ‘Mediterranean Breviary, on the waves of Radio Mediterana’ with his scars, the voices of new shipwrecks of history, but it is painful decided to shape the actual journey on stage in an ingeniously witty way. Her play, a production of the Gavella theater and Radio Theater Bajsić and friends (the premiere was on March 21), expanded by the brilliant textual interventions of Olja Savičević Ivančević, is a real theatrical miracle, a combination of comic variety, nostalgic stage parody, contemplative sound images, atmospheric narration and flickering emotional reflections with a lot of great acting and wonderful music.”
