The life of a small theater troupe is shaken by the news of the arrival of a Bollywood producer who intends to turn an abandoned factory, a temporary rehearsal hall of a local theater, turn it into a movie studio. For actors without a building, perspective and hope, this information becomes a reason to organize a performance and try to secure a place for themselves in the future spectacle. They decide to perform the work that represents the artistic “foundation of the nation” in the Bollywood way.
Through the utopian story of the arrival of Bollywood, the play is about all of us and what we are ready for when we are promised a better future. This “arrival” becomes a metaphor for industrial collapse, nationalism, xenophobia, wild privatization and construction, theft of social property and false promises – all told through song, dance and bitter humour.
Bollywood appears as a symbol of escapism, but also as an occasion for the reawakening of solidarity and togetherness, values lost in the post-communist, transitional period. The play opens the question of our willingness to forget the past and accept everything that is offered to us, bringing us to an infantile position from which it is difficult to get out.
