The largest Montenegrin film festival and one of the most significant in Southeast Europe, the 39th Film Festival Herceg Novi – Montenegro Film Festival will be held from August 22 to 28, 2026.
This August, the audience can expect the latest regional productions, the best films of European cinematography, documentaries from around the world, student films, new TV series, as well as a program dedicated to the film industry Montenegro Film Rendezvous.
The selector of the competition program of feature films is journalist and film critic Vuk Perović, the director of the documentary program is Vladimir Perović, while the selector of the student program is director Sara Stijović. The artistic director of the Festival is playwright Stevan Koprivica.
In addition to the films that will compete for awards, the audience will have the opportunity to watch a selection of prominent European cinematography in the program selections of Kino Evropa and the Festival Network of the Adriatic Region.
The selection of TV Niš, introduced last year, will also this August bring to the audience in Herceg Novi an overview of the latest achievements in the production of television series in the region.
Screenings will be held at several locations in Herceg Novi, which during the festival become open-air cinemas – the Kanli Kula and Forte mare fortresses, Mića Pavlović Square and the garden of the House of Nobel laureate Ivo Andrić. These unique environments turn watching movies into a special experience and are one of the distinctive features of the Festival.
In cooperation with the Film Center of Montenegro, the film industry days Montenegro Film Rendezvous will be organized for the third time, bringing together authors, producers, selectors and film professionals from the entire region, opening up space for new partnerships and co-productions.
The patrons of the 39th Film Festival Herceg Novi – Montenegro film festival are the Ministry of Culture and Media of Montenegro and the Municipality of Herceg Novi, and the executive producer is the Public Institution of Culture Herceg-fest.
