DESCRIPTION:The magnificent 31st edition of Herceg Novi’s April theatre festival will be held from April 1 to 30\, under the slogan ’31 years without a missed call – HAPS is calling you’. \nThis year’s theatre festival brings 15 recent regional productions of various genres. \nHAPS was launched in 1996 and forms the link between the winter and summer festival\, cultural and tourist seasons in Herceg Novi. \nAfter the first few years\, when the long-term organizer and holder of HAPS\, the Hercegnov Theater mostly exchanged performances with similar theater companies\, since 2002 the festival has been gathering professional theater artists and ensembles as a revue event. \nIn the past years\, a strong connection was established in the co-production of this festival between the cultural umbrella institution in Herceg Novi JUK “Herceg Fest” and the NGO Herceg Novi Theater. As we have woven into the objects our ancestors and their stories that they passed on to us\, they gain importance and turn into family heritage\, and some of them also represent part of the cultural heritage of an entire nation. \nThe show is interactive and introduces children to a dialogue with a time in which they do not live\, but from which they can draw inspiration for creative creation and play with different materials and objects. With the help of her gnome assistants Z and V\, Luna discovers what stories and objects she keeps in her grandmother’s chest. The play was created after a cycle of workshops that were conducted with different ages to gain insight into objects and stories that people keep as memories.” \nThe play is intended for children from 3 to 10 years old\, to whom it brings objects from the everyday life of their ancestors closer\, turning them into family and cultural heritage. The decision about this award states: “the idea of the text (is) that even the greatest processes of humanity depend on whether a useless human being has meaning\, compassion and love for at least one other human being\, and with its ultimate lesson and message it represents one of the most moving dramas in the history of almost half a century of the competition ‘Branislav Nušić’\, (and) stands out for its dignified wisdom in contemporary Serbian dramaturgy. \nDirector Ana Tomović on the play: I really liked the play at the first reading\, because Milica managed to tell the story of the great scientist Nikola Tesla in a new way\, through his family and\, above all\, through his mother Đuka… What is classic or traditional in it is that it takes place in space and costumes\, in the consciousness of people from the end of the 19th century in Lika. But\, on the other hand\, the piece is also modern due to the “address” of Đuka\, who comes as a woman from the future. Namely\, she is the narrator in this story\, she guides us through the events that happened\, and therefore has a higher consciousness\, a deviation in relation to the situation in the piece. In this sense\, this play is about the clash of tradition and modernity… \nIn a short time\, becoming one of the most awarded plays from last season\, “Đuka” shines a light on the life of Nikola Tesla’s mother and represents a significant contribution to the nurturing of the domestic text and the affirmation of historical figures whose importance goes beyond the local framework. The play permeates the themes of the strength of mothers and women\, faith in the future of humanity\, support for genius in moments when no one else believed\, as well as the position of women in a patriarchal society. The text basically deals with the theme of friendship. Everyday life and survival with stereotyped\, imposed forms for people of the third age. The desire to step forward\, by not accepting standardized patterns\, takes the heroine of this story on a new and unknown journey. By rejecting conventionality\, they come to experiences that change them and make life more exciting. They embark on adventures that allow them surprises. They discover the life they thought was behind them. \nMario Drmać and Alen Muratović present themselves in the female characters of Bebe and Ruža. They point out that they find the research of female characters provocative and intriguing\, and that in the past they had experience working with female characters in the play “Hen” by Nikolay Koljada (December 4\, 1957-March 2\, 2026)\, and that this was one of the starting points for working on this project. \nThe play was awarded three times at the 21st International Comedy Festival ‘Mostarska liska 2024’ with a Grand Lisk for: the best actor at the festival – Mario Drmać\, for the best play as chosen by the media\, for the best play as chosen by the audience. At the International Festival of Small Scenes and Monodramas in East Sarajevo: the audience award and the special diploma “Boards that mean life”\, which went to Mario Drmać for his exceptional acting transformation in the role of Bebe in the play “Don’t Give Up Generation”. Is it possible? Is it smart?\nWill their life situations allow them to realize their love because… together they have almost 100 years of experience!!! \nTake a peek behind the scenes of their world and witness the hilariously humorous\, romantic\, but also awkward situations that two ‘old men’ in love go through…” \nLove behind the scenes brings the audience hilariously entertaining and touching moments from the lives of two “old men” in love – an acting couple with almost 100 years of joint professional experience. \nIn this story\, full of seduction and temptation\, the audience will have the opportunity to peek behind the theater curtain\,\nhe witnesses their love affairs and misadventures and enjoys life situations that are recognisable\, laughable and inspiring. \nVladimir Posavec-Tušek\, theater\, television and film actor\, with more than 80 roles in his career\, known to the general public for his regionally popular series and acting achievements such as the role of Nikola Tesla in the play “Tesla: Adaptation of an Angel”\, Duško Popov in the series “Professor Mišković’s Notebook”\, Daria in the series “Kud puklo da puklo” adds: “I think we will give the audience a drinkable\, humorous and emotional story in the cabaret form\, which also gives them the opportunity to cross the ramp\, join us and enjoy together.” \nMina Lazarevic\, a Serbian theater and television actress\, has already participated in “Love Cabaret”\, a play that received the highest average audience rating in 2024\, at HAPS. In addition to the fact that the audience loves her\, she performs a variety of musical genres really well\, and this form of musical theater is very receptive to the audience. \n“Cabaret\, by definition\, is a type of entertaining theater and is made up of cheerful stories\, witticisms\, satire\, and criticism. Cabaret\, like the court jester\, is allowed to say what no one else has\, and that’s why cabaret even today\, no matter how it is performed and whoever plays it\, should have an active relationship with its moment. Sometimes this “active relationship” means one thing\, other times it means something completely different\, and that’s why now and here\, we tell some happy stories\, comment on important things\, have a cheerful conversation into sad ones\, little things into big ones\, we make others easier when they are not pleasant. DESCRIPTION:The performance “The Princess”\, historical drama – Maska Herceg Novi\, (Off program\, domestic production) will be performed on the stage of the Park Hall\, on Monday\, April 27\, starting at 8 pm\, as part of the program of the 31st HAPS. \nText and direction: Jelena Kajgo\nWork with actors: Slađana Vujović\nCostume: Višnja Žilić\nScenography: Ivana Vučković \nIn the play\, Milic Lučić and Dejan Đonović play the strikingly described roles of Princess Xenia and her father Nikola Petrović Njegoš\, prince and king of Montenegro. \n“Princess” was also the graduation performance of a young and talented woman from Herceg Novi\, Milica Lučić\, at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade\, who joined the constellation of actors\, film and theater creators who emerged in our city. \nKsenija Petrović – Njegoš was born in 1881\, as the eighth daughter of the Montenegrin ruler\, Prince Nikola Petrović Njegoš. Serious\, ambitious\, eager to learn and with a curious spirit\, Ksenia early began to show individuality\, sharpness of judgment\, persistence and principledness. She traveled often\, in Montenegro as well as in European metropolises where her sisters lived. She was extremely devoted to her father. Although princes from European courts showed interest in her\, Xenia never wanted to marry\, choosing independence and political activities rather than family life. \nShe was the first female photographer in the Balkans\, and the first female driver in the Balkans. She made thousands of photographs of significant content and artistic quality. Since she was exiled from her homeland at the age of 35 along with the entire ruling family\, those photos brought her back to her homeland\, which she missed terribly. She never returned to Montenegro\, although she dreamed about it for the rest of her life. \n“I was lucky that the young and gifted Milica Lučić brought the character of Xenia cheerfully and confidently and brought us back to the happy and carefree life of the Petrović family in Cetinje. DESCRIPTION:The dance performance “How far to the end” – Ballet troupe “Ballo”\, Podgorica / Montenegrin National Theater\, will be performed on the stage of the Park Dvorana\, on Wednesday\, April 29\, starting at 8 p.m.\, as part of the program of the 31st HAPS. \nAuthor: Julija Milačić Petrović Njegoš\nCo-author: Tamara Vujošević-Mandić\nComposer: Irena Popović-Dragović\nCostume designer: Lina Leković\nLighting design: Damjan Pejanović \nThe performance premiered on: October 4\, 2025 on the stage of Studio CNP Podgorica. \nThe play features: Anja Misović\, Miloš Kašćelan\, Nevena Penava\, Luka Stanković\, Kristina Mrkić and high school ballerina Staša Radenović. \n“The choreography\, authored by the drama artist Julija Milačić Petrović Njegoš\, and co-authored by the choreographer and ballet teacher Tamara Vujošević-Mandić\, explores the psychological and emotional consequences of the destruction of the family on the young generation\, showing both their individual struggle and the collective feeling of alienation\, and the need to reconnect with themselves and others. Through bodily expression\, the authors and performers initiate a conversation about the mechanisms of violence and isolation\, as well as about possible healing.” (Portal of Montenegro) \n“Through this choreo-drama\, through movement and dance\, as the most natural and most direct form of human expression\, the troupe ‘Ballo’ opens space for reflection and conversation.
